Inspiration websites for CGI & Architecture: Our Top 5 Selection

Keeping your mind creative and seeking new ideas from different sources is part of our job as architects and designers. Sometimes to do so is to see what our colleagues are doing – their innovative projects or to research the history of architecture. Books and magazines and online sites go above and beyond to showcase that and even more. The sources to explore the vast world of architecture are endless and thus time-consuming. Hence, why we have put together our top 5 sites, to gather inspiration and information from.

1. Dezeen

Dezeen was launched in London in 2006 by Marcus Fairs and has since grown into one of the world’s most popular and influential architecture and design magazines. With offices in the UK and USA, it has more than 3 million unique visitors every month! This showcases that it truly is a source for inspiration to architects and non-professionals worldwide. The site has a variety of sections, ranging from architecture, interior and design to videos, events, awards and more. In addition to winning many reputable awards, Dezeen has its own Dezeen Awards- an annual awards programme that identifies the world’s best architecture, interiors and design.

2. Archdaily

Archdaily was founded in 2008 by architects David Assael and David Basulto. The site in fact grew out from “Plataforma Arquitectura” which in the 2000s provided a way to showcase the talent and expand beyond the traditional network to provide opportunities to all architects. The viewers saw the huge potential of the then spanish site and the website ranked the 4th most widely read architecture website. Out of the success an english website Archdaily was born. The website stands out as a platform that showcases the range of the vast subject. From BIM to products, interviews and competitions, Archdaily covers everything an architect might be looking for. Among the projects one can find local projects, new firms, interesting clients and different programs and constraints. This makes the website truly unique.

3. Wallpaper

Wallpaper* is a monthly magazine launched in London, in 1996 that covers the vast world of design and architecture, art, fashion and lifestyle. With the rise of online media, in 2004 the website for the magazine was introduced. To us Wallpaper is a source to seek the extraordinary. To discover the next-generation and rediscover the creators that are in the shadows of history. The site offers a view into worldwide architecture and architects, books and news that feed the mind with tasteful inspiration.

4. Behance

Behance is a platform part of the evergrowing Adobe Creative Cloud. The site´s aim is to allow people to showcase their portfolios of visual work such as graphic design, fashion, illustration, photography, and more. Similar to many social media platforms Behance is offering its users to expand their network, creating ways to collaborate or seek jobs.

5. Design Boom

Design Boom is a Milan, Beijing and New York based magazine that was founded in 1999. That makes it the world´s first online magazine! According to Forbes Design Boom is “go-to designation for all things architecture”. We agree with this statement as Design Boom is bringing together a wide range of content from young and experienced architecture. As they say about themselves “today, designboom is a comprehensive source with over 50,000 articles worth of useful information and insightful interviews, studio visits, documentation of new products, reviews of exhibitions and books, and historical surveys.” Definitely a source to keep an eye on!

As an architectural 3D visualisation studio we offer services like interior design and architecture as well. Creating the website for our studio has been a dream come true and it’s really a pleasure to see our ideas and work being an inspiration to others as well!
